Galeries Lafayette — Christmas magic in mixed reality
Context & challenge
Every winter, the dome at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann hosts a Christmas display that has become a Parisian tradition. The goal was to add a digital layer: a mixed-reality experience extending the physical set rather than replacing it.
Challenge identified
- Make an existing physical set and a virtual environment coexist.
- Respect the architecture of the dome, a landmark in its own right.
- Hold execution quality on a display seen by thousands of visitors.
Approach & executive role
IKI Productions supervised the content side of the experience :
- directing and overseeing production of the CGI elements;
- choreography and animation of the characters;
- coordination with the immersive display's technical teams;
- checking consistency between the physical set and the virtual environment.
Solution delivered
- A faceted, low-poly ice landscape matched to the existing white set.
- Animated polar bears, choreographed within the store's space.
- A finale under the dome, the experience's high point.
Results
A century-old set augmented, never covered up.
The graphic choice — faceted white volumes — lets the virtual environment converse with the physical set instead of competing with it. The dome stays visible and recognisable at every moment of the experience.
