Cointreau — the evolution of an icon in CGI
Context & challenge
Cointreau wanted a film telling the story of its bottle's evolution, from the original to today's design. A heritage exercise that meant bringing objects separated by more than a century together on screen, at the same level of finish.
Challenge identified
- Faithfully reproduce bottles that in some cases exist only in archives.
- Work without 3D scanning the bottles.
- Render the glass, the amber of the liquid and the grain of the labels with documentary accuracy.
Approach & executive role
IKI Productions led the entire production :
- meticulous study of each bottle and label from available references;
- full 3D reconstruction of the bottles, without scanning;
- supervision of the render — glass, liquid, gilding, print textures;
- coordination of technical teams through to delivery.
Solution delivered
- A web film produced entirely in CGI.
- A series of modelled bottles covering the brand's history.
- A unified treatment of light and material across every era.
Results
A reconstruction with no scanning, faithful down to the smallest detail.
Working without 3D scanning meant rebuilding everything through observation. This approach made it possible to treat available and long-lost bottles the same way, and to deliver a film where every era gets the same care in rendering.
